info - spanair

Spanair was born, inspired by the philosophy of providing the best quality in air transport service to all its passengers. At present, after 17 years, the company is very proud to have consolidated as the first alternative in Spanish air transport.

With more than 340 daily flights, 90 charter and 250 scheduled, and more than 3000 employees, Spanair is a dynamic company, which relies on experience and constant growth.

Presently, Spanair has a fleet of 56 aircraft, comprising 19 MD 83, 10 MD 82, 3 MD 87, 5 AIRBUS321, 15 AIRBUS320 and 4 BOEING717. In 1999, Spanair signed an agreement with the European AIRBUS to renew and increase the fleet with 45 aircraft from the A320 family. It was decided to name these aircraft after some of the Living Spanish Universal Figures including celebrities such as Camilo José Cela (Author), Plácido Domingo (Tenor) and Juan de Avalos (Sculptor).

Since the beginning, March 1988, 73 million passengers have flown with this airline and more than 8 million passengers chose Spanair for their journeys in 2004.

Spanair’s main objective is to provide quality service to all their passengers, based on the highest levels of SAFETY, PUNCTUALITY, IN-FLIGHT SERVICE and CUSTOMER CARE.

Punctuality is a priority for Spanair, as well as for its passengers. For this reason, since February 2001, it is the only Spanish airline offering a punctuality guarantee commitment on its domestic routes, in line with the idea of ensuring the highest quality service to all its passengers both in-flight and on the ground.

With this system, if, through causes that can be attributed to Spanair, the plane's doors are closed more than 15 minutes after the scheduled departure time, the procedure will be: Passengers travelling in Spanair Business Avant Class will receive a voucher valid for a free ticket for another flight on the same route and in the same class. In the case of passengers travelling in Economy Class, they will receive a voucher valid for a 25% discount for a new ticket in the same route in any class.

Spanair was awarded the ALPHA Excellence in Marketing, which honours the company's initiative towards their passengers and improvement of standards in quality of service.

April 1st, 2003 marked the date of Spanair's entry into the Star Alliance network.
