More than 40 years of excellent service in the heart of Europe.

It all started on March 31st in 1958 when a Vickers Viscount, leased by Austrian, took off to London. This first flight marked the beginning of an airline, rather small on an international scope, but offering top quality and establishing itself, right from the start, as an expert in travel to Eastern Europe, the CIS States and the Middle East.

More than once in its history, Austrian has been a pioneer, daring to fly to unknown "spots" in Eastern Europe.

The leased Vickers Viscount were soon replaced and Austrian entered the jet age with the French Caravelle, the "lady" among aircraft. MD80's were the heart of the fleet in the late seventies and in the eighties, whereas today, aircraft of various types and sizes allow operating the airplanes on given segments optimally.

Young, modern, respectful of the environment - these are the attributes of the Austrian Airlines Group Fleet. The average aircraft age is about 6,2 years. Together with the partners of the Austrian Airlines Group, Lauda and Austrian arrows, Austrian offers a network of 130 destinations in 66 countries on five continents.

International co-operations, e.g. with Swissair, Sabena and SAS were formed many years ago and since March 26th, 2000 Austrian has been a member of Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world.

Austrian considers itself to be a well-appreciated partner in international civil aviation due to its dedication to highest quality in all areas of the company.
